Tempo’s owner Dan Nelson is a drummer who grew up in a musical family and spent over 20 years working as a concert and event promoter. He has infused his lifelong passion for music and entertainment throughout Tempo Kitchen & Bar, with musical décor both inside and outside. (Even the restroom doors are covered with old vinyl records!)
Every Friday and Saturday night, Tempo hosts live bands and DJs spanning all musical genres, including classic rock, country, soul, R&B, and high-energy dance music. Occasional Jam Sessions feature local up-and-coming bands.
You’ll also find other special events going on throughout the year, including Winemaker’s Dinners, Karaoke Nights, Comedy Nights, Holiday Brunches, and Murder Mystery Nights. Tempo also provides catering services and hosts banquets, corporate parties, and other special events.
Delicious Downtown Dining
The menu at Tempo is best described as “contemporary classic,” with plenty of all-American favorites like Steak, Burgers, and Fish & Chips as well as unique dishes like Chicken Jerusalem, Buffalo Mac & Cheese Bake, Pork Shanks, and Apple, Brie & Honey Flatbread.
Tempo’s most popular dinner entrée is the 8 oz. Skirt Steak, which is marinated in a blend of soy sauce, garlic (of course—this IS Gilroy after all), ginger, cilantro, and citrus juice, then grilled to perfection and served with mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus.
A selection of small plates run the gamut from Nachos and Sliders to Ceviche, Octopus Confit, and Fried Brussels Sprouts. For dessert, there’s a luscious Chocolate Mousse Dome, Raspberry Lemon Cake, Banana Bread Pudding, and more.

Tempo’s friendly bartenders serve up a variety of signature craft cocktails, such as “The Berry Thought of You,” “Let’s Get Fizzical,” “Champagne Supernova,” and the popular-but-slightly-awkward-to-order “Sex on the Beach.”
The most popular cocktail? According to Tempo staff, that would be the “Lavender Blues,” made with Vodka, Lemon, Cointreau Lavender Cordial, Black Lemon, and Dehydrated Lemon.
You can also enjoy wine from local California vineyards by the glass or bottle, as well as several beers on tap.
