Gilroy Garlic Festival

The celebration that put Gilroy on the map

The very first Gilroy Garlic Festival in 1979 was intended to be a small hometown celebration of the local garlic harvest—and ended up attracting more than 10,000 visitors. Over the next four decades, the Festival grew, welcoming garlic-lovers from around the world to enjoy great garlicky food and family fun.

Powered by Volunteers

The heart of the Gilroy Garlic Festival was the team of more than 4,000+ volunteers who came together every summer to host summer’s ultimate food festival. while earning money for their favorite school groups, sports teams, and non-profit organizations. Over 42 years, the Festival raised more than $12 million for the local community.
